Mars, violence and Donald Trump

Last week’s assassination attempt on Donald Trump got me thinking about the role that Mars plays in birth charts and astrological prediction. Guns, violence, aggression and confrontations are all ‘ruled’ by Mars. So let’s deep dive into Donald’s connection to this planet, to see how it plays out in his life.

What is Mars?
Mars is the planet that rules assertion, action, energy, motivation, competition, sexuality, courage, combat, the military, anger, the colour red, heat, war, fire and violence. Ancient astrologers call this a ‘malefic’ planet, because it seems to bring its fair share of accidents, incidents and misfortune. Modern astrologers are kinder, noting that a bit of Martian zest and drive are pretty useful for getting things done.

Donald Trump’s Mars
If we analyse Mars traits, it sounds like we’re basically describing The Donald, so it’ll come as no surprise that he has Mars in basically the most prominent part of the chart - conjunct the Ascendant.

The Ascendant is our persona and way we project ourself into the world. Any planets here are obvious in our appearance and how we take on people and situations. Donald’s Mars sits in the sign of LEO, bringing an even more fiery, performative, dramatic edge to an already heated placement. The dude likes attention and is veeerrry comfortable being the big man. He gets quite angry. He’s very red. He looks like he’s ready to explode at any moment.

Immediately we can see that Mars is very important in Donald’s chart. This means that transits and progressions and other Mars influences are going to be impactful throughout his life. He has the ‘natal promise’ to be impacted by Martian things. And he’ll respond to them in a Martian way.

The Shooting 
Last week I wrote a post warning about the current configuration of Mars and Uranus. It’s a short, sharp combination that brings Mars qualities together with Uranian unpredictability, shock and sudden events. At the time of the shooting, these two planets were just over a degree apart and the aspect was strengthening (applying). It’s safe to say that this is very potent energy for attacks, accidents and crisis events that involve violence and blood. For the nerds: The Sun and Moon are also exactly square, adding to the tension).

If we get a bit more technical, we can check out where this configuration is currently sitting against Donald’s natal chart. Blow me down, if it isn’t smack bang next to his Midheaven - the most public point in the chart that is associated with career, aspirations and public reputation. 

For the nerds: note that at the minute of the shooting, the transiting Descendant (which would indicate the shooter) is just over Donald’s Uranus.

So we’ve seen that the natal promise of Donald’s chart is prone to Mars topics and the sky is fizzing with Mars energy on that day.

The Stage is Set
There’s a nifty astrology technique called Astrocartography, that imprints the energy of your birth chart onto the world map. It shows countries and cities where you’re more likely to encounter the different energy of your chart. It’s a great technique, and fascinating to dive into. Looking at Donald’s lines, we can see that his Mars Ascendant line runs right nearby…. Pittsburgh and Butler is just north of that. So the Mars influence is amplified in his astrology map. He’s more prone to ‘Mars’ things in this location. The line continues on through Washington DC, the site of many Donald conquests and also the location of the January 6 riots that he incited. 

In typical Martian style, Donald survived the attack, and was immediately back on his feet, blood pouring, arm raised in a fist and chanting ‘fight, fight, fight’. I mean, you can’t write this stuff. This is the ultimate Mars scenario and the ultimate Mars response.

Luckily for Donald, there was other astrology happening that day. The luckiest planet, Jupiter, is currently transiting through his 10th house of career and reputation. It was also the ruling planet at the moment the gunman took his shot. It acted as a protective shield, ensuring that not only was Donald ok, but his reputation was boosted and enlarged to mythical status.

Jupiter acted like Teflon, and this planet sticks close to Donald all year. By election day, it’s sitting exactly on top of his North Node (destiny, purpose), also triggering his Sun and Moon.

For the nerds: Election day also sees Venus and the Moon transiting the South Node and Transiting Mars also ingresses into Leo.

I hate to say it, but with the skies shining so favourably in November, it’s hard to see how Donald can lose this election. If he were my client, I’d be telling him to start planning that victory speech.
