Why are female popstars all Sagittarius?
What do Rita Ora, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish all have in common? Well they’re all Sagittarians of course! There’s a risk-taking wildness to this sign that is driven by a search for truth and wisdom. They’ll push to extremes, chase down their passions and experience impulsive adventures as they quest to KNOW and UNDERSTAND their worlds. They also don’t care much for convention and will happily live their own truths. Saggies are outspoken, uncouth, careless, optimistic and freedom-loving.
While there’s similarities between these women, there’s also endless variations, exposing the problems of simplistic Sun Sign astrology. They all might relate to Sagittarian keywords such as ‘freedom loving’, ‘experiential’, ‘adaptable’ and ‘fun-loving’, but the way they’ll apply these traits will depend on other parts of their charts…
Britney is a classic Sag with 5 placements here including Mercury (communication), Uranus (individuality) and Neptune (dreams). And she is the wide-eyed seeker, a bit trusting, a bit naive, a bit unpolished. Sitting in the 3rd house, this stellium is introspective, focused on herself and her own mental processes. With a Libra Ascendant, and Moon in Aquarius, she’s pleasant and fair with others. The chart is ruled by Venus in Capricorn, conjunct the South Node in the 4th house. This is the tight control and bonds to family. Saturn in the 1st saw her taking responsibility and working from a young age.
This birth time is unreliable, so we’ll skip the Ascendant and focus on Rita’s gentle combination of Sag Sun with Venus (beauty), Mercury (communication) and Lilith (female strength). A Pisces Moon adds a hypnotic edge. With no outer planets in Sag, there’s a gentler edge to Rita’s Sagittarian experience.
Wild child Miley is a sentimental favourite for me, as we share our birthday (just a few! years apart). She has the playfulness of a Sagittarius Sun, but actually the Scorpio and Capricorn planets dominate. Scorpio is intense, extreme and sexy, which seems about right. Funnily enough, her role as Hannah Montana was all about a double life of secrets (classic Scorpio) and performance (classic Sag). The Taurus Ascendant makes Venus in Capricorn the chart ruler, and like Britney, her dad has been a major figure in her life. This also gives maturity to her choices and a solid understanding of the business of entertainment.
Billie is my favourite artist in this lot - famous since 14 and prone to a darker take on life. Her Sag Sun sits conjunct the South Node at the Galactic Centre (27 Sag). Venus and Pluto round off the Sagittarius placements. Pluto gives the depth and darkness - a focus on taboos, death and her goth aesthetic. Planets conjunct the South Node give amazing gifts, but are draining. Having the Sun here indicates the precocious talent and early success, but I can’t help but think that being ‘Billie’ is exhausting. At some stage we can expect her to exit the limelight, as an act of self protection. With a strong 9th house, and chart ruler Mars in Pisces in the 12th, I wouldn’t be surprised to see her self-exile and retreat overseas or to a spiritual community where she can rest and focus on her Gemini North Node - study and learning.
And Tay Tay, the least ‘wild’ of the bunch, but just as outspoken. It’s not surprising to see that the Sun is Taylor’s only Sagittarius placement. It gives her a more ‘fun’ persona than all her Capricorn planets suggest. This is an ambitious, practical and hard working lady. Capricorn gives a more conservative edge, and her chart ruler, Mars in Scorpio, sits right on the Ascendant - this is her determined, vindictive streak that will hold a grudge and slay any enemy.
So you can see how Sun Signs merely show one tiny part of a person. While all these ladies may share some traits, it’s the rest of their charts that make them uniquely them.
